As knowledge continues to grow in this information age, scientists have made many new and exciting discoveries in every facet of life. However, what many scientists don’t acknowledge is that there are countless passages in God’s Word that provide verifiable scientific facts and principles. Since these facts were written long before they were discovered by man, Christians can have great confidence that God is not only the Author of his Word, but Creation itself! After all, He spoke the universe into existence, so He intimately knows every detail – from the tiny cell to the largest planet!
Searching for specific instances of scientific truths revealed in God’s Word is a fun and unique way to study the Bible, not to mention an opportunity to learn more about man and His Creator.
Here are a few examples of where modern science aligns perfectly with what God’s Word had already revealed to us.
“God stretches the northern sky over empty space and hangs the earth on nothing.” (Job 26:7)
Long before anyone knew with certainty that the Earth was suspended in space, other religions taught that our planet rested on something. In some of the more creative belief systems, it was actually thought that the earth was stretched on the back of an animal! But God’s word tells us that the Earth is indeed “hanging on nothing”. This fact was proven at the dawn of space exploration.
“Make the boat 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high.” (Genesis 6:15)
Expert ship builders will tell you that the ideal measurements for any floating vessel are when its length spans six times its width. With advanced technology and modern engineering capabilities, these measurements are still the gold standard for building a perfect ship. God gave these exact same dimensions to Noah when He instructed him to build the ark. As an all-knowing God, He knew this proportionality for the Ark would be exactly what Noah’s family needed to withstand the flood waters and stay afloat in tumultuous conditions.
Then God said, “Let the earth produce every sort of animal, each producing offspring of the same kind—livestock, small animals that scurry along the ground, and wild animals.” (Genesis 1:24)
This Biblical account stating that God created animals by “kinds” has been proven over and over by what we can observe from today’s animals. It’s obvious that one kind of any animal (e.g. cows, cats, dogs, etc.) creates the same kind of animal. We never see one kind of animal breeding a new kind of animal. This is a continual reminder that the theory of evolution is deeply flawed. The bottom line is that there’s not one shred of evidence (witnessed or discovered) that would lead us to believe that one kind of animal “evolves” into another kind of animal.
And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.” And it was so. God called the dry ground “land,” and the gathered waters he called “seas.” And God saw that it was good. (Genesis 1:9-10)
Most modern scientists agree that there was a time when all the dry lands were connected as one large mass. This supports how the Bible describes the early Earth before The Great Flood. There’s also abundant evidence of the Flood in the fossil record and in living plants and animals that inhabit different parts of the world.
From one man He created all the nations throughout the whole earth. He decided beforehand when they should rise and fall, and He determined their boundaries. (Acts 17:26)
Many genetic studies from around the globe have reached the conclusion that all humans likely originated from the same genetic line. This aligns perfectly with what we read in the Bible – that God created Adam and Eve, and that all humans were descendants of this first couple. But how could it be possible that all humans came from the same genetic line if there were multiple human species evolving from ape like creatures at the same time? Evolution suggests that humans have many genetic lines, but modern scientific discoveries continue to disprove this idea.
For the Lord is God, and He created the heavens and earth and put everything in place. He made the world to be lived in, not to be a place of empty chaos. “I am the Lord,” He says, “and there is no other. (Isaiah 45:18)
Science has proven many times over that our Earth is very uniquely designed to support life – not just human life, but the life of every plant, animal, insect, and organism on our planet. In fact, if just one of Earth’s environmental factors changed, (e.g. distance from the sun, temperature gravitational pull, the amount of water, barometric pressure, etc.), life wouldn’t be sustainable. So once again, this aligns beautifully with what the Scriptures teach – that God created Earth to be our home (for now) and has given us everything we need to survive and thrive.
What an awesome and glorious Creator we serve!
